5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the loss of Mary Ellen |

6 | 6 | | Hayman Lewis of Houston, who died on November 27, 2007, at the age |

7 | 7 | | of 78; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Hayman was born in Ohio on July 23, 1929, |
---|
9 | 9 | | to William Ray and Marie Sayre Hayman; she graduated as |
---|
10 | 10 | | valedictorian of her class at Racine High School in 1947 and began |
---|
11 | 11 | | her working life as executive secretary to the mayor of Columbus, |
---|
12 | 12 | | Ohio; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 1954, she moved to Texas, where she embarked on a |
---|
14 | 14 | | career in the oil and gas industry that would span more than three |
---|
15 | 15 | | decades; initially employed as a receptionist, she eventually |
---|
16 | 16 | | worked in the field of regulatory compliance and retired in 1989; |
---|
17 | 17 | | and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Lewis shared 47 years with her husband, Bill, |
---|
19 | 19 | | and together they were blessed with three children; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Actively engaged in the life of her community, she |
---|
21 | 21 | | was a member of the Tejas Chapter of the Daughters of the American |
---|
22 | 22 | | Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Heritage |
---|
23 | 23 | | Republican Women, and other organizations; Mrs. Lewis also worked |
---|
24 | 24 | | with the George Bush Foundation at Texas A&M University and was the |
---|
25 | 25 | | sole trustee of the Bart and Helen De Laat Endowment Fund at the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Colorado School of Mines; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Known as "Boots" to her loved ones, Mary Ellen Lewis |
---|
28 | 28 | | was a devoted wife and mother, and a dedicated member of her |
---|
29 | 29 | | community, and she will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts |
---|
30 | 30 | | of those whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Ellen Hayman |
---|
33 | 33 | | Lewis and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: |

34 | 34 | | to her sons, William Gregg Lewis and his wife, Elaine, Jeff Lewis |
---|
35 | 35 | | and his wife, Holly, and Paul Lewis and his wife, Emily; to her nine |

36 | 36 | | grandchildren; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it |
