44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the loss of Mary Ellen
66 Hayman Lewis of Houston, who died on November 27, 2007, at the age
77 of 78; and
88 WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Hayman was born in Ohio on July 23, 1929,
99 to William Ray and Marie Sayre Hayman; she graduated as
1010 valedictorian of her class at Racine High School in 1947 and began
1111 her working life as executive secretary to the mayor of Columbus,
1212 Ohio; and
1313 WHEREAS, In 1954, she moved to Texas, where she embarked on a
1414 career in the oil and gas industry that would span more than three
1515 decades; initially employed as a receptionist, she eventually
1616 worked in the field of regulatory compliance and retired in 1989;
1717 and
1818 WHEREAS, Mrs. Lewis shared 47 years with her husband, Bill,
1919 and together they were blessed with three children; and
2020 WHEREAS, Actively engaged in the life of her community, she
2121 was a member of the Tejas Chapter of the Daughters of the American
2222 Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Heritage
2323 Republican Women, and other organizations; Mrs. Lewis also worked
2424 with the George Bush Foundation at Texas A&M University and was the
2525 sole trustee of the Bart and Helen De Laat Endowment Fund at the
2626 Colorado School of Mines; and
2727 WHEREAS, Known as "Boots" to her loved ones, Mary Ellen Lewis
2828 was a devoted wife and mother, and a dedicated member of her
2929 community, and she will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts
3030 of those whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3232 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Ellen Hayman
3333 Lewis and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family:
3434 to her sons, William Gregg Lewis and his wife, Elaine, Jeff Lewis
3535 and his wife, Holly, and Paul Lewis and his wife, Emily; to her nine
3636 grandchildren; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it
3737 further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4040 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Ellen
4141 Hayman Lewis.
