 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the loss of Mary Ellen
 Hayman Lewis of Houston, who died on November 27, 2007, at the age
 of 78; and
 WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Hayman was born in Ohio on July 23, 1929,
 to William Ray and Marie Sayre Hayman; she graduated as
 valedictorian of her class at Racine High School in 1947 and began
 her working life as executive secretary to the mayor of Columbus,
 Ohio; and
 WHEREAS, In 1954, she moved to Texas, where she embarked on a
 career in the oil and gas industry that would span more than three
 decades; initially employed as a receptionist, she eventually
 worked in the field of regulatory compliance and retired in 1989;
 and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Lewis shared 47 years with her husband, Bill,
 and together they were blessed with three children; and
 WHEREAS, Actively engaged in the life of her community, she
 was a member of the Tejas Chapter of the Daughters of the American
 Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Heritage
 Republican Women, and other organizations; Mrs. Lewis also worked
 with the George Bush Foundation at Texas A&M University and was the
 sole trustee of the Bart and Helen De Laat Endowment Fund at the
 Colorado School of Mines; and
 WHEREAS, Known as "Boots" to her loved ones, Mary Ellen Lewis
 was a devoted wife and mother, and a dedicated member of her
 community, and she will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts
 of those whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Ellen Hayman
 Lewis and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family:
 to her sons, William Gregg Lewis and his wife, Elaine, Jeff Lewis
 and his wife, Holly, and Paul Lewis and his wife, Emily; to her nine
 grandchildren; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Ellen
 Hayman Lewis.
