55 WHEREAS, Business and civic leader Gene Allen of Kerrville
66 was appointed to the Texas Funeral Service Commission by Governor
77 Rick Perry in February 2009; and
88 WHEREAS, Serving a six-year term that will end in 2015,
99 Mr. Allen will help to oversee the licensing of funeral directors
1010 and embalmers; members of the commission also enforce compliance
1111 with state regulations concerning funeral homes, cemeteries, and
1212 crematories; and
1313 WHEREAS, After 20 years in the oil and gas industry in West
1414 Texas, Mr. Allen began working in the funeral industry in
1515 Levelland; he took ownership of the Kerrville Funeral Home in 2001;
1616 and
1717 WHEREAS, This outstanding professional has served as
1818 president of the Hill Country Funeral Directors Association and
1919 director of the South Central Region of the Texas Funeral Directors
2020 Association; he has also served on the membership resource
2121 committee of the National Funeral Directors Association, and he is
2222 a member of the Funeral Ethics Association, the American Society of
2323 Embalmers, and the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral
2424 Association; and
2525 WHEREAS, Mr. Allen also has a distinguished history of
2626 service to his community; he was a Levelland city councilman for
2727 three terms, and in Kerrville he has served as president of the
2828 Kerrville Host Lions Club and as a board member of the Haven in the
2929 Texas Hill Country Alzheimer's care center, the K'Star Youth
3030 Shelter, and the Hill Country chapter of the American Red Cross,
3131 among other organizations; and
3232 WHEREAS, The oversight of the funeral industry in Texas
3333 relies on the service of dedicated and public-spirited individuals,
3434 and Gene Allen has long proven himself to be an outstanding member
3535 of his profession and a leader in his community; now, therefore, be
3636 it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3838 Legislature hereby congratulate Gene Allen on his appointment to
3939 the Texas Funeral Service Commission and extend to him sincere best
4040 wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for Mr. Allen as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4343 House of Representatives.
