 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Business and civic leader Gene Allen of Kerrville
 was appointed to the Texas Funeral Service Commission by Governor
 Rick Perry in February 2009; and
 WHEREAS, Serving a six-year term that will end in 2015,
 Mr. Allen will help to oversee the licensing of funeral directors
 and embalmers; members of the commission also enforce compliance
 with state regulations concerning funeral homes, cemeteries, and
 crematories; and
 WHEREAS, After 20 years in the oil and gas industry in West
 Texas, Mr. Allen began working in the funeral industry in
 Levelland; he took ownership of the Kerrville Funeral Home in 2001;
 and
 WHEREAS, This outstanding professional has served as
 president of the Hill Country Funeral Directors Association and
 director of the South Central Region of the Texas Funeral Directors
 Association; he has also served on the membership resource
 committee of the National Funeral Directors Association, and he is
 a member of the Funeral Ethics Association, the American Society of
 Embalmers, and the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral
 Association; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Allen also has a distinguished history of
 service to his community; he was a Levelland city councilman for
 three terms, and in Kerrville he has served as president of the
 Kerrville Host Lions Club and as a board member of the Haven in the
 Texas Hill Country Alzheimer's care center, the K'Star Youth
 Shelter, and the Hill Country chapter of the American Red Cross,
 among other organizations; and
 WHEREAS, The oversight of the funeral industry in Texas
 relies on the service of dedicated and public-spirited individuals,
 and Gene Allen has long proven himself to be an outstanding member
 of his profession and a leader in his community; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Gene Allen on his appointment to
 the Texas Funeral Service Commission and extend to him sincere best
 wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Allen as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
