44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Bowden Chapter of Business and Professional
66 Women held its annual fellowship breakfast on October 21, 2007,
77 commemorating the organization's 65-year history and honoring
88 L. Vernice Warner as the chapter's Woman of the Year; and
99 WHEREAS, Created to support and celebrate women in their
1010 respective fields, the Bowden Chapter of Business and Professional
1111 Women has also promoted community service projects and a long list
1212 of local organizations and events since its founding in 1942; and
1313 WHEREAS, Woman of the Year L. Vernice Warner embodies the
1414 group's charitable ideals through her many efforts to give back to
1515 the community by helping others; in addition to her work with the
1616 Bowden Chapter, she has been a valued member of Emmanuel A.M.E.
1717 Church for more than 60 years, and the congregation has greatly
1818 benefited from her service as a trustee, steward, Sunday school
1919 teacher, women's day chair, and lay delegate to several
2020 Quadrangles; she has also attended the general conferences hosted
2121 by her church and shared her time with the Women's Missionary
2222 Society, which she serves as a life member; and
2323 WHEREAS, A native of Weimar, Mrs. Warner graduated from
2424 Douglas High School and attended St. Philip's College; while
2525 studying at St. Philip's, she met Artemisia Bowden, who served as
2626 her mentor and helped her earn a scholarship to the St. Agnes
2727 Hospital School of Nursing at St. Augustine's College; and
2828 WHEREAS, This accomplished Texan went on to earn bachelor's
2929 and master's degrees in education from Prairie View A&M University
3030 and pursued further studies at Our Lady of the Lake University;
3131 today, she is retired from a distinguished 33-year career with the
3232 San Antonio Independent School District and enjoys a lifetime
3333 membership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; and
3434 WHEREAS, In recognizing the achievements of Mrs. Warner,
3535 members of the Bowden Chapter of Business and Professional Women
3636 honored a woman who has devoted many years to improving the lives of
3737 Alamo City residents, and this notable organization and its Woman
3838 of the Year are truly deserving of special commendation; now,
3939 therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4141 Legislature hereby honor the Bowden Chapter of Business and
4242 Professional Women for its members' 65 years of community service
4343 and congratulate L. Vernice Warner on being named the chapter's
4444 2007 Woman of the Year; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
4747 Texas House of Representatives.
