| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Valerie Garza, a senior at Earl Warren High School |

| 6 | 6 | | in San Antonio, has deservedly been named a scholar finalist in the |

| 7 | 7 | | 2008-2009 National Hispanic Recognition Program; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An initiative of the College Board, the National |

| 9 | 9 | | Hispanic Recognition Program honors those Hispanic students who |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | score well on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholar Qualifying |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Test and who maintain a satisfactory grade point average; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Valdemar Garza III, this outstanding |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | young Texan has long been involved in extracurricular activities, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | having competed on the Warren High volleyball and cross-country |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | teams and been an active member of the Girl Scouts of America; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Garza has further distinguished herself as a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | National English Scholar and as a member of the National Honor |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Society; a dedicated student, she has earned an impressive grade |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | point average of 95.0, and she plans to continue her education at |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | St. Mary's University; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Soon to embark on an exciting new chapter in her |

| 22 | 22 | | life, Valerie Garza may indeed reflect with pride on her numerous |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | accomplishments and look with anticipation toward a bright and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | promising future; now, therefore, be it |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Valerie Garza on her selection as a |
