No. 1368 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Valerie Garza, a senior at Earl Warren High School in San Antonio, has deservedly been named a scholar finalist in the 2008-2009 National Hispanic Recognition Program; and WHEREAS, An initiative of the College Board, the National Hispanic Recognition Program honors those Hispanic students who score well on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test and who maintain a satisfactory grade point average; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Valdemar Garza III, this outstanding young Texan has long been involved in extracurricular activities, having competed on the Warren High volleyball and cross-country teams and been an active member of the Girl Scouts of America; and WHEREAS, Ms. Garza has further distinguished herself as a National English Scholar and as a member of the National Honor Society; a dedicated student, she has earned an impressive grade point average of 95.0, and she plans to continue her education at St. Mary's University; and WHEREAS, Soon to embark on an exciting new chapter in her life, Valerie Garza may indeed reflect with pride on her numerous accomplishments and look with anticipation toward a bright and promising future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Valerie Garza on her selection as a scholar finalist in the 2008-2009 National Hispanic Recognition Program and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
