44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of Lawrence
66 F. Blais of Weatherford, who passed away on August 2, 2008, at the
77 age of 88; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on March 17, 1920, in New Hampshire, Larry
99 Blais worked in a gas station and grill throughout his high school
1010 years to help support his family; he graduated from the University
1111 of New Hampshire and, in 1942, began a long association with the
1212 military when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps; serving his nation
1313 in the Pacific Theater during World War II, he earned numerous
1414 decorations, including the Legion of Merit, and retired at the rank
1515 of colonel after three decades of service; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mr. Blais earned a master's degree at Harvard and a
1717 juris doctor degree from Southern Methodist University; after
1818 embarking on a career as an attorney, he was soon appointed to the
1919 family law court, where he served as an associate judge for 28
2020 years; throughout his career, he advocated strongly for the
2121 interests of children; and
2222 WHEREAS, In 1989, Mr. Blais married the former Ava Lynn
2323 Logan, and the couple were blessed with a daughter, Lauren Kristen,
2424 the following year; he was also the father of four sons, and his
2525 family was a source of great joy to him as was his renewed faith; and
2626 WHEREAS, Larry Blais was a man of tremendous ability and
2727 dedication, and he leaves behind a legacy of service to his country
2828 and to his community that will be forever cherished by those who
2929 held him dear; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3131 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lawrence F. Blais and
3232 extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
3333 wife, Ava Lynn Blais; to his daughter, Lauren Blais; to his two
3434 surviving sons, Curtis and Larry Blais; to his sisters, Audrey
3535 Bassett and Virginia Haley; to his grandchildren, Kristopher,
3636 Marcus, Lin, Michael, and Debbie; to his three great-grandchildren;
3737 and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4040 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Larry
4141 Blais.
