5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of Lawrence |
---|
6 | 6 | | F. Blais of Weatherford, who passed away on August 2, 2008, at the |
---|
7 | 7 | | age of 88; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on March 17, 1920, in New Hampshire, Larry |
---|
9 | 9 | | Blais worked in a gas station and grill throughout his high school |
---|
10 | 10 | | years to help support his family; he graduated from the University |
---|
11 | 11 | | of New Hampshire and, in 1942, began a long association with the |
---|
12 | 12 | | military when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps; serving his nation |
---|
13 | 13 | | in the Pacific Theater during World War II, he earned numerous |
---|
14 | 14 | | decorations, including the Legion of Merit, and retired at the rank |
---|
15 | 15 | | of colonel after three decades of service; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Blais earned a master's degree at Harvard and a |
---|
17 | 17 | | juris doctor degree from Southern Methodist University; after |
---|
18 | 18 | | embarking on a career as an attorney, he was soon appointed to the |
---|
19 | 19 | | family law court, where he served as an associate judge for 28 |
---|
20 | 20 | | years; throughout his career, he advocated strongly for the |
---|
21 | 21 | | interests of children; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 1989, Mr. Blais married the former Ava Lynn |
---|
23 | 23 | | Logan, and the couple were blessed with a daughter, Lauren Kristen, |
---|
24 | 24 | | the following year; he was also the father of four sons, and his |
---|
25 | 25 | | family was a source of great joy to him as was his renewed faith; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Larry Blais was a man of tremendous ability and |
---|
27 | 27 | | dedication, and he leaves behind a legacy of service to his country |
---|
28 | 28 | | and to his community that will be forever cherished by those who |
---|
29 | 29 | | held him dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lawrence F. Blais and |
---|
32 | 32 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
---|
33 | 33 | | wife, Ava Lynn Blais; to his daughter, Lauren Blais; to his two |
---|
34 | 34 | | surviving sons, Curtis and Larry Blais; to his sisters, Audrey |
---|
35 | 35 | | Bassett and Virginia Haley; to his grandchildren, Kristopher, |
---|
36 | 36 | | Marcus, Lin, Michael, and Debbie; to his three great-grandchildren; |

37 | 37 | | and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |

38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
