H.R. No. 141 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of Lawrence F. Blais of Weatherford, who passed away on August 2, 2008, at the age of 88; and WHEREAS, Born on March 17, 1920, in New Hampshire, Larry Blais worked in a gas station and grill throughout his high school years to help support his family; he graduated from the University of New Hampshire and, in 1942, began a long association with the military when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps; serving his nation in the Pacific Theater during World War II, he earned numerous decorations, including the Legion of Merit, and retired at the rank of colonel after three decades of service; and WHEREAS, Mr. Blais earned a master's degree at Harvard and a juris doctor degree from Southern Methodist University; after embarking on a career as an attorney, he was soon appointed to the family law court, where he served as an associate judge for 28 years; throughout his career, he advocated strongly for the interests of children; and WHEREAS, In 1989, Mr. Blais married the former Ava Lynn Logan, and the couple were blessed with a daughter, Lauren Kristen, the following year; he was also the father of four sons, and his family was a source of great joy to him as was his renewed faith; and WHEREAS, Larry Blais was a man of tremendous ability and dedication, and he leaves behind a legacy of service to his country and to his community that will be forever cherished by those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lawrence F. Blais and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Ava Lynn Blais; to his daughter, Lauren Blais; to his two surviving sons, Curtis and Larry Blais; to his sisters, Audrey Bassett and Virginia Haley; to his grandchildren, Kristopher, Marcus, Lin, Michael, and Debbie; to his three great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Larry Blais.
