5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jaime Esparza has significantly benefited his |
---|
6 | 6 | | fellow citizens as the district attorney of El Paso, Culberson, and |
---|
7 | 7 | | Hudspeth Counties for more than 15 years; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An El Paso native, Jaime Esparza graduated from |
---|
9 | 9 | | Burgess High School and went on to earn degrees from The University |
---|
10 | 10 | | of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston Law Center; he was |
---|
11 | 11 | | licensed to practice law in 1983 and subsequently served as a |
---|
12 | 12 | | prosecutor for the Harris County District Attorney's Office and as |
---|
13 | 13 | | an assistant district attorney and public defender for El Paso |
---|
14 | 14 | | County before being elected district attorney of the 34th Judicial |
---|
15 | 15 | | District in 1992; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Esparza has contributed his leadership to such |
---|
17 | 17 | | notable organizations as the National District Attorneys |
---|
18 | 18 | | Association, the Texas District and County Attorneys Association, |
---|
19 | 19 | | which he has served as president, and the boards of several High |
---|
20 | 20 | | Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas; known for his no-nonsense stance |
---|
21 | 21 | | on drugs, he organized the Southwest Border Prosecutors to partner |
---|
22 | 22 | | with the federal government in handling drug trafficking at the |
---|
23 | 23 | | international ports-of-entry; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Since taking office, this dedicated Texan has |
---|
25 | 25 | | implemented several successful initiatives, including the District |
---|
26 | 26 | | Attorney Information Management System, which allows law |
---|
27 | 27 | | enforcement officers and assistant district attorneys to |
---|
28 | 28 | | communicate about criminal cases around the clock, and the county's |
---|
29 | 29 | | first Child Fatality Review Team; particularly interested in |
---|
30 | 30 | | children's issues, he also established the Children's Court and the |
---|
31 | 31 | | local Amber Alert, and he is a founding board member of the Advocacy |
---|
32 | 32 | | Center for the Children of El Paso; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Esparza enjoys the love |
---|
34 | 34 | | and support of his wife, Noelia, and their four children, Diego, |
---|
35 | 35 | | Adrian, Elena, and Enrique; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Publicly commended with the El Paso Police |
---|
37 | 37 | | Department Visionary Award, Jaime Esparza has worked to ensure the |
---|
38 | 38 | | safety and security of residents of El Paso and the surrounding |
---|
39 | 39 | | area, and he may take justifiable pride in his exemplary record of |
---|
40 | 40 | | achievement; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature hereby honor Jaime Esparza for his outstanding efforts |
---|
43 | 43 | | in behalf of El Paso, Culberson, and Hudspeth Counties and extend to |
---|
44 | 44 | | him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
