44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Jaime Esparza has significantly benefited his
66 fellow citizens as the district attorney of El Paso, Culberson, and
77 Hudspeth Counties for more than 15 years; and
88 WHEREAS, An El Paso native, Jaime Esparza graduated from
99 Burgess High School and went on to earn degrees from The University
1010 of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston Law Center; he was
1111 licensed to practice law in 1983 and subsequently served as a
1212 prosecutor for the Harris County District Attorney's Office and as
1313 an assistant district attorney and public defender for El Paso
1414 County before being elected district attorney of the 34th Judicial
1515 District in 1992; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mr. Esparza has contributed his leadership to such
1717 notable organizations as the National District Attorneys
1818 Association, the Texas District and County Attorneys Association,
1919 which he has served as president, and the boards of several High
2020 Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas; known for his no-nonsense stance
2121 on drugs, he organized the Southwest Border Prosecutors to partner
2222 with the federal government in handling drug trafficking at the
2323 international ports-of-entry; and
2424 WHEREAS, Since taking office, this dedicated Texan has
2525 implemented several successful initiatives, including the District
2626 Attorney Information Management System, which allows law
2727 enforcement officers and assistant district attorneys to
2828 communicate about criminal cases around the clock, and the county's
2929 first Child Fatality Review Team; particularly interested in
3030 children's issues, he also established the Children's Court and the
3131 local Amber Alert, and he is a founding board member of the Advocacy
3232 Center for the Children of El Paso; and
3333 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Esparza enjoys the love
3434 and support of his wife, Noelia, and their four children, Diego,
3535 Adrian, Elena, and Enrique; and
3636 WHEREAS, Publicly commended with the El Paso Police
3737 Department Visionary Award, Jaime Esparza has worked to ensure the
3838 safety and security of residents of El Paso and the surrounding
3939 area, and he may take justifiable pride in his exemplary record of
4040 achievement; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4242 Legislature hereby honor Jaime Esparza for his outstanding efforts
4343 in behalf of El Paso, Culberson, and Hudspeth Counties and extend to
4444 him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for Mr. Esparza as an expression of high regard by the
4747 Texas House of Representatives.
