H.R. No. 1410 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Jaime Esparza has significantly benefited his fellow citizens as the district attorney of El Paso, Culberson, and Hudspeth Counties for more than 15 years; and WHEREAS, An El Paso native, Jaime Esparza graduated from Burgess High School and went on to earn degrees from The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston Law Center; he was licensed to practice law in 1983 and subsequently served as a prosecutor for the Harris County District Attorney's Office and as an assistant district attorney and public defender for El Paso County before being elected district attorney of the 34th Judicial District in 1992; and WHEREAS, Mr. Esparza has contributed his leadership to such notable organizations as the National District Attorneys Association, the Texas District and County Attorneys Association, which he has served as president, and the boards of several High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas; known for his no-nonsense stance on drugs, he organized the Southwest Border Prosecutors to partner with the federal government in handling drug trafficking at the international ports-of-entry; and WHEREAS, Since taking office, this dedicated Texan has implemented several successful initiatives, including the District Attorney Information Management System, which allows law enforcement officers and assistant district attorneys to communicate about criminal cases around the clock, and the county's first Child Fatality Review Team; particularly interested in children's issues, he also established the Children's Court and the local Amber Alert, and he is a founding board member of the Advocacy Center for the Children of El Paso; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Esparza enjoys the love and support of his wife, Noelia, and their four children, Diego, Adrian, Elena, and Enrique; and WHEREAS, Publicly commended with the El Paso Police Department Visionary Award, Jaime Esparza has worked to ensure the safety and security of residents of El Paso and the surrounding area, and he may take justifiable pride in his exemplary record of achievement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Jaime Esparza for his outstanding efforts in behalf of El Paso, Culberson, and Hudspeth Counties and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Esparza as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
