 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
 memories of Barbara Louise Stephen Davis of Galveston, who passed
 away on February 23, 2009, at the age of 70; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Davis was born March 25, 1938, to Weldon and
 Alberta Stephen; a sixth-generation Galvestonian, she loved her
 hometown's colorful history, the diversity of its people and
 cultures, and the abundant beauty of the land, water, architecture,
 and wildlife that defines the city; and
 WHEREAS, After obtaining master's degrees in anthropology
 and education, Mrs. Davis devoted her considerable education and
 talent to the Galveston Independent School District, where she
 taught reading, bilingual education, ESL, and special education for
 35 years; and
 WHEREAS, This outstanding teacher was dedicated to educating
 the generations of students and adults that were privileged to
 learn from her in classrooms and tutoring sessions; she possessed a
 rare and inspiring ability to motivate and instill her love of
 knowledge and scholastic achievement; and
 WHEREAS, Sustained by her deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Davis
 moved through the peaks and valleys of her life with grace and
 dignity; a congregant of Trinity Episcopal Church, she was a lay
 chaplain in the Community of Hope, a labyrinth facilitator with the
 William Temple Episcopal Center, and an oblate in the Benedictine
 World Community for Christian Education; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Davis also volunteered her time to many local
 civic and community organizations, supporting activities of the
 Junior League of Galveston County, the Galveston Arts Center, and
 the Children's Center; and
 WHEREAS, Barbara Davis lived a caring and purposeful life;
 her thoughts and concerns were ever centered on the needs of her
 family, and her actions and words were always aimed at nourishing
 the hopes and dreams of those she loved; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st
 Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Barbara Louise
 Stephen Davis and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her
 family: to her sons, Peter, Bret, Chris, and Sean; to her sister,
 Susan Williams; to her grandchildren, Toshi, Koto, and Kai; to her
 daughters-in-law, Carol, Naomi, and Ayesha; and to her other
 relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Barbara
 Louise Stephen Davis.
