H.R. No. 1491 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Members of Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Marshall are joining together on April 26, 2009, to pay tribute to Elsie Juanita Pugh, who has served as the church pianist and accompanist for 50 years; and WHEREAS, A lifetime resident of Marshall, Mrs. Pugh was born on April 22, 1939; she graduated from Marshall High School, where she played piano for the choir and was president of Future Teachers of America, reporter of the student council, and editor-in-chief of the yearbook; and WHEREAS, This fine musician was the pianist with Fairview Baptist Church of Marshall before she married Richard Irvin Pugh 50 years ago and transferred her membership to Cumberland Presbyterian Church; and WHEREAS, An active member of the church, she has served as treasurer of the Women's Ministry and chair of the Bonnie Mae Pugh Circle; she also holds a life membership in the Women's Missionary Society; and WHEREAS, Professionally, Mrs. Pugh worked as chief deputy in the Harrison County District Clerk's Office from 1989 to 1999; above all else, she has been a devoted wife to her husband, Richard, nurturing mother of their two children, Todd and Penny, and doting grandmother of Katie, Travis, and Courtney; and WHEREAS, Through her music, Elsie Pugh brings great joy and beauty into the lives of her fellow congregants at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and her talent and dedicated service are truly worthy of special recognition and praise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby recognize April 26, 2009, as Elsie Pugh Day and extend to Mrs. Pugh sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Pugh as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
