44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The congregants of the Greater Mount Olive
66 Missionary Baptist Church in Houston are deeply appreciative of the
77 Reverend Byrd Lacey, Jr., and his wife, Marilyn, who have dedicated
88 25 years of service to the church; and
99 WHEREAS, Reverend Lacey was born and raised in Chapel Hill,
1010 where he attended Providence Missionary Baptist Church; he later
1111 moved to Houston, and in 1958, he was ordained as a minister at the
1212 Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church; and
1313 WHEREAS, A graduate of C. H. Hogan High School, he earned a
1414 degree in theology from Union Baptist Theological Seminary and went
1515 on to earn a doctorate in divinity studies from the Inter-Baptist
1616 Theological Center; and
1717 WHEREAS, Called to the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist
1818 Church in October 1983, Reverend Lacey continues to faithfully
1919 serve as pastor, teacher, counselor, mentor, and friend to his
2020 congregation and the greater community; and
2121 WHEREAS, He has also distinguished himself as a keynote
2222 speaker with the National Baptist Missionary Association of America
2323 and as dean of the South Texas District Missionary Baptist
2424 Association; and
2525 WHEREAS, Reverend Lacey has received numerous honors for his
2626 work, including the Humanitarian & Leadership Award from the
2727 Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church; in addition, he was named a
2828 Leader in Christian Education by the National Baptist Sunday Church
2929 School and Baptist Training Union of the National Baptist
3030 Publishing Board, recognized for community service by the Metro
3131 Southeast Houston Chapter of the National Women of Achievement, and
3232 honored by the Top Ladies of Distinction as one of Houston's
3333 Outstanding Ministers; and
3434 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Lacey derives great
3535 inspiration and joy from his wife, Marilyn, who has graciously
3636 given of her time and gifts in behalf of myriad church activities,
3737 and from his four children, Cheryl Donovan, Cheryl Chandler, Kim
3838 Carter, and Jacqueline Ward; he also is blessed with the love and
3939 affection of nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and
4040 WHEREAS, Reverend Lacey and Mrs. Lacey have touched the lives
4141 of countless individuals throughout the past quarter-century, and
4242 the congregants of Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist have been
4343 all the richer for their presence; now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4545 Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend Byrd Lacey, Jr., and
4646 his wife, Marilyn, on their 25 years of service to the Greater Mount
4747 Olive Missionary Baptist Church and extend to them sincere best
4848 wishes for continued success and fulfillment; and, be it further
4949 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5050 prepared for Reverend and Mrs. Lacey as an expression of high regard
5151 by the Texas House of Representatives.
