5	5	WHEREAS, The congregants of the Greater Mount Olive
6	6	Missionary Baptist Church in Houston are deeply appreciative of the
7	7	Reverend Byrd Lacey, Jr., and his wife, Marilyn, who have dedicated
8	8	25 years of service to the church; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Reverend Lacey was born and raised in Chapel Hill,
10	10	where he attended Providence Missionary Baptist Church; he later
11	11	moved to Houston, and in 1958, he was ordained as a minister at the
12	12	Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church; and
13	13	WHEREAS, A graduate of C. H. Hogan High School, he earned a
14	14	degree in theology from Union Baptist Theological Seminary and went
15	15	on to earn a doctorate in divinity studies from the Inter-Baptist
16	16	Theological Center; and
17	17	WHEREAS, Called to the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist
18	18	Church in October 1983, Reverend Lacey continues to faithfully
19	19	serve as pastor, teacher, counselor, mentor, and friend to his
20	20	congregation and the greater community; and
21	21	WHEREAS, He has also distinguished himself as a keynote
22	22	speaker with the National Baptist Missionary Association of America
23	23	and as dean of the South Texas District Missionary Baptist
24	24	Association; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Reverend Lacey has received numerous honors for his
26	26	work, including the Humanitarian & Leadership Award from the
27	27	Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church; in addition, he was named a
28	28	Leader in Christian Education by the National Baptist Sunday Church
29	29	School and Baptist Training Union of the National Baptist
30	30	Publishing Board, recognized for community service by the Metro
31	31	Southeast Houston Chapter of the National Women of Achievement, and
32	32	honored by the Top Ladies of Distinction as one of Houston's
33	33	Outstanding Ministers; and
34	34	WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Lacey derives great
35	35	inspiration and joy from his wife, Marilyn, who has graciously
36	36	given of her time and gifts in behalf of myriad church activities,
37	37	and from his four children, Cheryl Donovan, Cheryl Chandler, Kim
38	38	Carter, and Jacqueline Ward; he also is blessed with the love and
39	39	affection of nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and
40	40	WHEREAS, Reverend Lacey and Mrs. Lacey have touched the lives
41	41	of countless individuals throughout the past quarter-century, and
42	42	the congregants of Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist have been
43	43	all the richer for their presence; now, therefore, be it
44	44	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
45	45	Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend Byrd Lacey, Jr., and
46	46	his wife, Marilyn, on their 25 years of service to the Greater Mount
47	47	Olive Missionary Baptist Church and extend to them sincere best
48	48	wishes for continued success and fulfillment; and, be it further
49	49	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
50	50	prepared for Reverend and Mrs. Lacey as an expression of high regard
51	51	by the Texas House of Representatives.
