 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The congregants of the Greater Mount Olive
 Missionary Baptist Church in Houston are deeply appreciative of the
 Reverend Byrd Lacey, Jr., and his wife, Marilyn, who have dedicated
 25 years of service to the church; and
 WHEREAS, Reverend Lacey was born and raised in Chapel Hill,
 where he attended Providence Missionary Baptist Church; he later
 moved to Houston, and in 1958, he was ordained as a minister at the
 Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church; and
 WHEREAS, A graduate of C. H. Hogan High School, he earned a
 degree in theology from Union Baptist Theological Seminary and went
 on to earn a doctorate in divinity studies from the Inter-Baptist
 Theological Center; and
 WHEREAS, Called to the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist
 Church in October 1983, Reverend Lacey continues to faithfully
 serve as pastor, teacher, counselor, mentor, and friend to his
 congregation and the greater community; and
 WHEREAS, He has also distinguished himself as a keynote
 speaker with the National Baptist Missionary Association of America
 and as dean of the South Texas District Missionary Baptist
 Association; and
 WHEREAS, Reverend Lacey has received numerous honors for his
 work, including the Humanitarian & Leadership Award from the
 Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church; in addition, he was named a
 Leader in Christian Education by the National Baptist Sunday Church
 School and Baptist Training Union of the National Baptist
 Publishing Board, recognized for community service by the Metro
 Southeast Houston Chapter of the National Women of Achievement, and
 honored by the Top Ladies of Distinction as one of Houston's
 Outstanding Ministers; and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Lacey derives great
 inspiration and joy from his wife, Marilyn, who has graciously
 given of her time and gifts in behalf of myriad church activities,
 and from his four children, Cheryl Donovan, Cheryl Chandler, Kim
 Carter, and Jacqueline Ward; he also is blessed with the love and
 affection of nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, Reverend Lacey and Mrs. Lacey have touched the lives
 of countless individuals throughout the past quarter-century, and
 the congregants of Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist have been
 all the richer for their presence; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend Byrd Lacey, Jr., and
 his wife, Marilyn, on their 25 years of service to the Greater Mount
 Olive Missionary Baptist Church and extend to them sincere best
 wishes for continued success and fulfillment; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Reverend and Mrs. Lacey as an expression of high regard
 by the Texas House of Representatives.
