R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Diocese of Corpus Christi is holding its first
annual Chess Team Championships at Central Catholic Elementary
School on January 31, 2009; and
WHEREAS, This exciting tournament in Corpus Christi is open
to Catholic school students in all grades from kindergarten through
high school; teams participate in one of five sections, K-1,
primary, elementary, middle, and high school; and
WHEREAS, The competition has been organized in conjunction
with Catholic Schools Week 2009, a national celebration of the
important contributions Catholic schools make to their communities
and the nation; and
WHEREAS, Now in its 36th year, the annual observance of
Catholic Schools Week promotes community awareness of and
involvement in local Catholic schools, and the Corpus Christi chess
competition will be an enjoyable and challenging way for area
students to mark the final day of the weeklong celebration; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby recognize January 31, 2009, as Catholic School
Chess Day in Corpus Christi and extend to the organizers and
participants sincere best wishes for a memorable event; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Diocese of Corpus Christi as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
