| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sandy Greyson has been elected as president of the |

| 6 | 6 | | League of Women Voters of Dallas, and this occasion provides a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | fitting opportunity to recognize this noteworthy organization; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Formed within the National American Woman Suffrage |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Association in 1920, the League of Women Voters promotes the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | informed and active participation of citizens in government, and it |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | influences public policy through education and advocacy; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | throughout its history, this nonpartisan political organization |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | has sought to empower citizens to shape better communities |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | worldwide and to maintain diversity within its membership; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Members of the League of Women Voters study relevant |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | policy issues and host continuing discussions to form positions |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | based on group consensus before the organization may take action on |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the issue or advocate for a particular cause; in addition, through |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the League of Women Voters Education Fund, the group conducts voter |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | service initiatives and helps citizens learn about public policy |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | issues at all levels of government; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In June 2009, Sandy Greyson begins her term as |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | president of the League of Women Voters of Dallas; Ms. Greyson is a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | former Dallas City Council member who represented District 12 from |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | 1997 to 2005 and served as the chair of the transportation |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | committee; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, With its strong commitment to education, the League |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of Women Voters of Dallas is helping to ensure that more Texans |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | become engaged participants in the political process, and Sandy |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Greyson promises to be a strong and effective leader of this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | dedicated group; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor the League of Women Voters of Dallas and |

| 34 | 34 | | its president-elect, Sandy Greyson, and extend to its members |
