H.R. No. 1531 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Sandy Greyson has been elected as president of the League of Women Voters of Dallas, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to recognize this noteworthy organization; and WHEREAS, Formed within the National American Woman Suffrage Association in 1920, the League of Women Voters promotes the informed and active participation of citizens in government, and it influences public policy through education and advocacy; throughout its history, this nonpartisan political organization has sought to empower citizens to shape better communities worldwide and to maintain diversity within its membership; and WHEREAS, Members of the League of Women Voters study relevant policy issues and host continuing discussions to form positions based on group consensus before the organization may take action on the issue or advocate for a particular cause; in addition, through the League of Women Voters Education Fund, the group conducts voter service initiatives and helps citizens learn about public policy issues at all levels of government; and WHEREAS, In June 2009, Sandy Greyson begins her term as president of the League of Women Voters of Dallas; Ms. Greyson is a former Dallas City Council member who represented District 12 from 1997 to 2005 and served as the chair of the transportation committee; and WHEREAS, With its strong commitment to education, the League of Women Voters of Dallas is helping to ensure that more Texans become engaged participants in the political process, and Sandy Greyson promises to be a strong and effective leader of this dedicated group; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor the League of Women Voters of Dallas and its president-elect, Sandy Greyson, and extend to its members sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the League of Women Voters of Dallas as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
