| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of his distinguished service in |

| 6 | 6 | | behalf of the people of Mesquite, Officer Doug Boyd of the Mesquite |

| 7 | 7 | | Police Department has been named 2008 Officer of the Year; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Officer Boyd, who has served with the Mesquite |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Police Department since 1990, is certified as an advanced peace |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Standards and Education; currently a patrol officer with |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Operations, he also trains new recruits in the field, giving them |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the benefit of his knowledge and experience; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding law enforcement professional's |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | numerous departmental accolades include the Five-Year Safe Driving |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Award, the Firearms Proficiency Award, the Life-Saving Award, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the Meritorious Conduct Award; he has received many commendations |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | from his supervisors and the community; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Officer Boyd has also been recognized as Citizen |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Police Academy Officer of the Month and Employee of the Quarter, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | as City of Mesquite Service Champion and as Citizen of the Week by |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | KRLD News Radio; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of Texas law |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | enforcement, Doug Boyd has earned the respect and admiration of the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | citizens of Mesquite and his fellow officers, and he may indeed |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | reflect with pride on the role he plays in making his community |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | safer; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Mesquite Police Department Officer |
