 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, In recognition of his distinguished service in
 behalf of the people of Mesquite, Officer Doug Boyd of the Mesquite
 Police Department has been named 2008 Officer of the Year; and
 WHEREAS, Officer Boyd, who has served with the Mesquite
 Police Department since 1990, is certified as an advanced peace
 officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer
 Standards and Education; currently a patrol officer with
 Operations, he also trains new recruits in the field, giving them
 the benefit of his knowledge and experience; and
 WHEREAS, This outstanding law enforcement professional's
 numerous departmental accolades include the Five-Year Safe Driving
 Award, the Firearms Proficiency Award, the Life-Saving Award, and
 the Meritorious Conduct Award; he has received many commendations
 from his supervisors and the community; and
 WHEREAS, Officer Boyd has also been recognized as Citizen
 Police Academy Officer of the Month and Employee of the Quarter, and
 as City of Mesquite Service Champion and as Citizen of the Week by
 KRLD News Radio; and
 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of Texas law
 enforcement, Doug Boyd has earned the respect and admiration of the
 citizens of Mesquite and his fellow officers, and he may indeed
 reflect with pride on the role he plays in making his community
 safer; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Mesquite Police Department Officer
 Doug Boyd on being named 2008 Officer of the Year and extend to him
 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Officer Boyd as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
