5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, First Lieutenant John David Magri of the United |

6 | 6 | | States Army returned home to Texas on March 17, 2009, following a |

7 | 7 | | 12-month deployment to Iraq, and he is indeed deserving of |

8 | 8 | | recognition for his outstanding service in behalf of this nation; |

10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born in Bogota, Colombia, to William and Martha |
---|
11 | 11 | | Magri, John Magri was raised in Houston; he began his military |
---|
12 | 12 | | career in August 2001, when he enlisted in the Texas National Guard; |
---|
13 | 13 | | after completing One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, |
---|
14 | 14 | | Georgia, he was assigned as a rifleman and team leader with the 2nd |
---|
15 | 15 | | Battalion, 142nd Infantry, of the 36th Infantry Division; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Magri was accepted into the Simultaneous |
---|
17 | 17 | | Membership Program and enrolled in the Reserve Officer Training |
---|
18 | 18 | | Corps while completing his business administration studies at Texas |
---|
19 | 19 | | Tech University; following his graduation in May 2006, he completed |
---|
20 | 20 | | further military training and was then assigned to Bravo Company, |
---|
21 | 21 | | 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, and took on the responsibilities of |
---|
22 | 22 | | mechanized infantry platoon leader and company executive officer; |
---|

24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, This courageous officer and his fellow soldiers were |
---|
25 | 25 | | deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and carried out |
---|
26 | 26 | | combat operations in Baghdad; in recognition of his exemplary |
---|
27 | 27 | | service, he has received the Bronze Star, the National Defense |
---|
28 | 28 | | Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and |
---|
29 | 29 | | Service Medals, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, |
---|
30 | 30 | | the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Airborne Badge; he currently |

31 | 31 | | serves as the commander of Bravo Company; and |

32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, In his spare time, Lieutenant Magri enjoys outdoor |
---|
33 | 33 | | activities such as golf, hunting, and fishing; in addition, he is a |
---|
34 | 34 | | passionate fan of the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team and the |

35 | 35 | | Houston Astros, and his timely return to the U.S. in spring 2009 |

36 | 36 | | allows him to keep close tabs on his favorite baseball team at the |

37 | 37 | | start of a new season; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, In his steadfast dedication to duty, Lieutenant John |
---|
39 | 39 | | D. Magri embodies the highest ideals of the United States armed |
---|
40 | 40 | | forces, and his admirable contributions to this nation's defense |

41 | 41 | | have earned him the respect and appreciation of his fellow |
---|
42 | 42 | | citizens; now, therefore, be it |

43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

44 | 44 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to First Lieutenant John David Magri |

45 | 45 | | for his service in Iraq and in his other military assignments and |
