44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, First Lieutenant John David Magri of the United
66 States Army returned home to Texas on March 17, 2009, following a
77 12-month deployment to Iraq, and he is indeed deserving of
88 recognition for his outstanding service in behalf of this nation;
99 and
1010 WHEREAS, Born in Bogota, Colombia, to William and Martha
1111 Magri, John Magri was raised in Houston; he began his military
1212 career in August 2001, when he enlisted in the Texas National Guard;
1313 after completing One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning,
1414 Georgia, he was assigned as a rifleman and team leader with the 2nd
1515 Battalion, 142nd Infantry, of the 36th Infantry Division; and
1616 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Magri was accepted into the Simultaneous
1717 Membership Program and enrolled in the Reserve Officer Training
1818 Corps while completing his business administration studies at Texas
1919 Tech University; following his graduation in May 2006, he completed
2020 further military training and was then assigned to Bravo Company,
2121 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, and took on the responsibilities of
2222 mechanized infantry platoon leader and company executive officer;
2323 and
2424 WHEREAS, This courageous officer and his fellow soldiers were
2525 deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and carried out
2626 combat operations in Baghdad; in recognition of his exemplary
2727 service, he has received the Bronze Star, the National Defense
2828 Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and
2929 Service Medals, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon,
3030 the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Airborne Badge; he currently
3131 serves as the commander of Bravo Company; and
3232 WHEREAS, In his spare time, Lieutenant Magri enjoys outdoor
3333 activities such as golf, hunting, and fishing; in addition, he is a
3434 passionate fan of the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team and the
3535 Houston Astros, and his timely return to the U.S. in spring 2009
3636 allows him to keep close tabs on his favorite baseball team at the
3737 start of a new season; and
3838 WHEREAS, In his steadfast dedication to duty, Lieutenant John
3939 D. Magri embodies the highest ideals of the United States armed
4040 forces, and his admirable contributions to this nation's defense
4141 have earned him the respect and appreciation of his fellow
4242 citizens; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4444 Legislature hereby pay tribute to First Lieutenant John David Magri
4545 for his service in Iraq and in his other military assignments and
4646 extend to him a hearty welcome home to the Lone Star State; and, be
4747 it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for Lieutenant Magri as an expression of high regard by the
5050 Texas House of Representatives.
