| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Times of great crisis often inspire noble actions, |

| 6 | 6 | | and the aftermath of Hurricane Ike proved to be no exception, as |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | evidenced by the many extraordinary relief efforts witnessed in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Williamson County and Central Texas; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Reaching out to those forced by Hurricane Ike to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | abandon their Gulf Coast homes, organizations in Round Rock and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Leander selflessly opened their doors to provide shelter and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | sustenance to more than 2,500 evacuees, and over 160 volunteers |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | worked diligently to distribute food and other essentials; included |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | among those invaluable schools that quickly stepped forward to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | offer much-needed assistance were Canyon Vista, Deerpark, Grisham, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Ridgeview, and Cedar Park Middle Schools and McNeil, Cedar Park, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and Vista Ridge High Schools; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Area school districts, first responders, civic and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | religious organizations, and local citizens did an exceptional job |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of meeting the demands of this high-pressure situation, and their |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | outpouring of compassion and assistance was truly commendable; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Embodying the highest ideals of service and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | commitment, Leander ISD, Round Rock ISD, the local police and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | sheriff departments, and area residents offered comfort, hope, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | security to numerous individuals in need, and in so doing, they |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | demonstrated remarkable generosity and exemplified the can-do |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | spirit of Williamson County; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed group of citizens did not hesitate to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | answer an urgent call for assistance during a most challenging |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | time, and their exceptional actions make us all proud to call |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | ourselves Texans; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor Leander ISD, Round Rock ISD, the Cedar |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Park, Leander, and Round Rock police departments, and the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Williamson County Sheriff's Office for their contributions to |

| 36 | 36 | | Hurricane Ike evacuees and extend to them sincere praise for a job |
