H.R. No. 1621 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Times of great crisis often inspire noble actions, and the aftermath of Hurricane Ike proved to be no exception, as evidenced by the many extraordinary relief efforts witnessed in Williamson County and Central Texas; and WHEREAS, Reaching out to those forced by Hurricane Ike to abandon their Gulf Coast homes, organizations in Round Rock and Leander selflessly opened their doors to provide shelter and sustenance to more than 2,500 evacuees, and over 160 volunteers worked diligently to distribute food and other essentials; included among those invaluable schools that quickly stepped forward to offer much-needed assistance were Canyon Vista, Deerpark, Grisham, Ridgeview, and Cedar Park Middle Schools and McNeil, Cedar Park, and Vista Ridge High Schools; and WHEREAS, Area school districts, first responders, civic and religious organizations, and local citizens did an exceptional job of meeting the demands of this high-pressure situation, and their outpouring of compassion and assistance was truly commendable; and WHEREAS, Embodying the highest ideals of service and commitment, Leander ISD, Round Rock ISD, the local police and sheriff departments, and area residents offered comfort, hope, and security to numerous individuals in need, and in so doing, they demonstrated remarkable generosity and exemplified the can-do spirit of Williamson County; and WHEREAS, This esteemed group of citizens did not hesitate to answer an urgent call for assistance during a most challenging time, and their exceptional actions make us all proud to call ourselves Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Leander ISD, Round Rock ISD, the Cedar Park, Leander, and Round Rock police departments, and the Williamson County Sheriff's Office for their contributions to Hurricane Ike evacuees and extend to them sincere praise for a job well done.
