5	5	WHEREAS, Under the leadership of chief executive officer
6	6	James N. Valenti, Thomason Hospital in El Paso has established a
7	7	reputation as one of the nation's finest medical facilities; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Thomson Healthcare, a leading provider of health
9	9	care information and solutions, named Thomason Hospital among the
10	10	100 Top Hospitals in its 15th National Benchmarks for Success
11	11	study; this prestigious award recognizes hospitals for outstanding
12	12	clinical outcomes, patient safety, efficiency, and financial
13	13	performance; Thomason Hospital was also ranked among the top five
14	14	major teaching hospitals in the country for its coding practices by
15	15	INGENIX, one of the largest U.S. health care information companies;
16	16	and
17	17	WHEREAS, Since joining the El Paso County Hospital District
18	18	as president and CEO in October 2004, Jim Valenti has worked
19	19	tirelessly to ensure that Thomason Hospital achieves the highest
20	20	standards of excellence, and he has expanded the services it
21	21	provides as the city's only not-for-profit community hospital;
22	22	Thomason has the only Level One trauma center within a 250-mile
23	23	radius of El Paso, and the hospital has recently enhanced its level
24	24	of pediatric care, recruiting new pediatric clinical experts to the
25	25	community, opening a new pediatric intensive care unit, and
26	26	developing a pediatric critical care transport team; moreover, its
27	27	new Children's Hospital is scheduled to open within the next two
28	28	years; and
29	29	WHEREAS, In 2008, Mr. Valenti was honored by the American
30	30	College of Healthcare Executives with its Senior-Level Healthcare
31	31	Executive Regent's Award; this accolade is presented annually to
32	32	ACHE affiliates who have enhanced the field of health care
33	33	management through leadership ability, innovation, mentoring, and
34	34	promotion of the growth and stature of their organization, as well
35	35	as through their participation in civic activities and projects; in
36	36	addition to his many professional responsibilities, Mr. Valenti
37	37	gives generously of his time and expertise to the wider community,
38	38	serving on the advisory board of the Greater El Paso Chamber of
39	39	Commerce and on the boards of the United Way of El Paso and the Paso
40	40	Del Norte Group; and
41	41	WHEREAS, Jim Valenti's vision and skill have guided Thomason
42	42	Hospital to national prominence, and his commitment to the highest
43	43	quality health care has made a significant difference in countless
44	44	lives; now, therefore, be it
45	45	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
46	46	Legislature hereby commend James N. Valenti for his noteworthy
47	47	contributions and achievements as chief executive officer of
48	48	Thomason Hospital and as president and chief executive officer of
49	49	the El Paso County Hospital District; and, be it further
50	50	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
51	51	prepared for Mr. Valenti as an expression of high regard by the
52	52	Texas House of Representatives.
