55 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of chief executive officer
66 James N. Valenti, Thomason Hospital in El Paso has established a
77 reputation as one of the nation's finest medical facilities; and
88 WHEREAS, Thomson Healthcare, a leading provider of health
99 care information and solutions, named Thomason Hospital among the
1010 100 Top Hospitals in its 15th National Benchmarks for Success
1111 study; this prestigious award recognizes hospitals for outstanding
1212 clinical outcomes, patient safety, efficiency, and financial
1313 performance; Thomason Hospital was also ranked among the top five
1414 major teaching hospitals in the country for its coding practices by
1515 INGENIX, one of the largest U.S. health care information companies;
1616 and
1717 WHEREAS, Since joining the El Paso County Hospital District
1818 as president and CEO in October 2004, Jim Valenti has worked
1919 tirelessly to ensure that Thomason Hospital achieves the highest
2020 standards of excellence, and he has expanded the services it
2121 provides as the city's only not-for-profit community hospital;
2222 Thomason has the only Level One trauma center within a 250-mile
2323 radius of El Paso, and the hospital has recently enhanced its level
2424 of pediatric care, recruiting new pediatric clinical experts to the
2525 community, opening a new pediatric intensive care unit, and
2626 developing a pediatric critical care transport team; moreover, its
2727 new Children's Hospital is scheduled to open within the next two
2828 years; and
2929 WHEREAS, In 2008, Mr. Valenti was honored by the American
3030 College of Healthcare Executives with its Senior-Level Healthcare
3131 Executive Regent's Award; this accolade is presented annually to
3232 ACHE affiliates who have enhanced the field of health care
3333 management through leadership ability, innovation, mentoring, and
3434 promotion of the growth and stature of their organization, as well
3535 as through their participation in civic activities and projects; in
3636 addition to his many professional responsibilities, Mr. Valenti
3737 gives generously of his time and expertise to the wider community,
3838 serving on the advisory board of the Greater El Paso Chamber of
3939 Commerce and on the boards of the United Way of El Paso and the Paso
4040 Del Norte Group; and
4141 WHEREAS, Jim Valenti's vision and skill have guided Thomason
4242 Hospital to national prominence, and his commitment to the highest
4343 quality health care has made a significant difference in countless
4444 lives; now, therefore, be it
4545 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4646 Legislature hereby commend James N. Valenti for his noteworthy
4747 contributions and achievements as chief executive officer of
4848 Thomason Hospital and as president and chief executive officer of
4949 the El Paso County Hospital District; and, be it further
5050 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5151 prepared for Mr. Valenti as an expression of high regard by the
5252 Texas House of Representatives.
