 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of chief executive officer
 James N. Valenti, Thomason Hospital in El Paso has established a
 reputation as one of the nation's finest medical facilities; and
 WHEREAS, Thomson Healthcare, a leading provider of health
 care information and solutions, named Thomason Hospital among the
 100 Top Hospitals in its 15th National Benchmarks for Success
 study; this prestigious award recognizes hospitals for outstanding
 clinical outcomes, patient safety, efficiency, and financial
 performance; Thomason Hospital was also ranked among the top five
 major teaching hospitals in the country for its coding practices by
 INGENIX, one of the largest U.S. health care information companies;
 and
 WHEREAS, Since joining the El Paso County Hospital District
 as president and CEO in October 2004, Jim Valenti has worked
 tirelessly to ensure that Thomason Hospital achieves the highest
 standards of excellence, and he has expanded the services it
 provides as the city's only not-for-profit community hospital;
 Thomason has the only Level One trauma center within a 250-mile
 radius of El Paso, and the hospital has recently enhanced its level
 of pediatric care, recruiting new pediatric clinical experts to the
 community, opening a new pediatric intensive care unit, and
 developing a pediatric critical care transport team; moreover, its
 new Children's Hospital is scheduled to open within the next two
 years; and
 WHEREAS, In 2008, Mr. Valenti was honored by the American
 College of Healthcare Executives with its Senior-Level Healthcare
 Executive Regent's Award; this accolade is presented annually to
 ACHE affiliates who have enhanced the field of health care
 management through leadership ability, innovation, mentoring, and
 promotion of the growth and stature of their organization, as well
 as through their participation in civic activities and projects; in
 addition to his many professional responsibilities, Mr. Valenti
 gives generously of his time and expertise to the wider community,
 serving on the advisory board of the Greater El Paso Chamber of
 Commerce and on the boards of the United Way of El Paso and the Paso
 Del Norte Group; and
 WHEREAS, Jim Valenti's vision and skill have guided Thomason
 Hospital to national prominence, and his commitment to the highest
 quality health care has made a significant difference in countless
 lives; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby commend James N. Valenti for his noteworthy
 contributions and achievements as chief executive officer of
 Thomason Hospital and as president and chief executive officer of
 the El Paso County Hospital District; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Valenti as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
