5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Waco lost a beloved neighbor and |
---|
6 | 6 | | esteemed civic leader with the passing of John D. Cabaniss on March |
---|
7 | 7 | | 6, 2009, at the age of 89; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Bell County, John Cabaniss was born on |
---|
9 | 9 | | October 3, 1919, to William Lycentus and Allie Herrington Cabaniss; |
---|
10 | 10 | | he graduated from Moody High School in 1938 and served with the U.S. |
---|
11 | 11 | | Army before attending The University of Texas and Baylor |
---|
12 | 12 | | University; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cabaniss earned his law degree from Baylor, and |
---|
14 | 14 | | his hard work and dedication as an attorney earned him the lasting |
---|
15 | 15 | | respect of his peers; in 1959, he was appointed justice of the peace |
---|
16 | 16 | | for Precinct 1, Place 1 in McLennan County, and over the course of |
---|
17 | 17 | | his notable 42-year tenure, he performed nearly 5,000 marriage |
---|
18 | 18 | | ceremonies and enjoyed close friendships with his courthouse |
---|
19 | 19 | | coworkers; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Cabaniss shared 47 years |
---|
21 | 21 | | with his wife, Dorothy, and he lovingly helped to raise her sons, |
---|
22 | 22 | | Charlie and Mark; he was an advocate of education, and his |
---|
23 | 23 | | encouragement led his stepsons to pursue an M.D. and J.D., |
---|
24 | 24 | | respectively; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Known for his storytelling ability and his |
---|
26 | 26 | | generosity of spirit, John Cabaniss made a positive difference in |
---|
27 | 27 | | many lives, and his loved ones will forever cherish their memories |
---|
28 | 28 | | of him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John D. Cabaniss and |
---|
31 | 31 | | extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
---|
32 | 32 | | Dorothy Cabaniss; to his stepsons, Dr. Charles Jaynes, Jr., and his |
---|
33 | 33 | | wife, Debbie, and Mark Jaynes and his wife, Marla; to his |
---|
34 | 34 | | grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, Lauren, Garrett, and Katelyn Jaynes, |
---|
35 | 35 | | Haley Thorpe, Britney Cross, and Brady Castille; to his eight |

36 | 36 | | great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; |
