 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Residents of Waco lost a beloved neighbor and
 esteemed civic leader with the passing of John D. Cabaniss on March
 6, 2009, at the age of 89; and
 WHEREAS, A native of Bell County, John Cabaniss was born on
 October 3, 1919, to William Lycentus and Allie Herrington Cabaniss;
 he graduated from Moody High School in 1938 and served with the U.S.
 Army before attending The University of Texas and Baylor
 University; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Cabaniss earned his law degree from Baylor, and
 his hard work and dedication as an attorney earned him the lasting
 respect of his peers; in 1959, he was appointed justice of the peace
 for Precinct 1, Place 1 in McLennan County, and over the course of
 his notable 42-year tenure, he performed nearly 5,000 marriage
 ceremonies and enjoyed close friendships with his courthouse
 coworkers; and
 WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Cabaniss shared 47 years
 with his wife, Dorothy, and he lovingly helped to raise her sons,
 Charlie and Mark; he was an advocate of education, and his
 encouragement led his stepsons to pursue an M.D. and J.D.,
 respectively; and
 WHEREAS, Known for his storytelling ability and his
 generosity of spirit, John Cabaniss made a positive difference in
 many lives, and his loved ones will forever cherish their memories
 of him; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John D. Cabaniss and
 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
 Dorothy Cabaniss; to his stepsons, Dr. Charles Jaynes, Jr., and his
 wife, Debbie, and Mark Jaynes and his wife, Marla; to his
 grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, Lauren, Garrett, and Katelyn Jaynes,
 Haley Thorpe, Britney Cross, and Brady Castille; to his eight
 great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John D.
 Cabaniss.
