5	5	WHEREAS, John Lemons is retiring as superintendent of the
6	6	Bushland Independent School District on June 30, 2009, and this
7	7	occasion provides a fitting opportunity to honor him for the
8	8	notable contributions he has made throughout his career in
9	9	education; and
10	10	WHEREAS, The son of a schoolteacher, John Lemons was raised
11	11	in Memphis, Texas; he graduated from Memphis High School and
12	12	attended The University of Texas, Texas Tech University, and West
13	13	Texas A&M University, ultimately earning a master's degree in
14	14	administration; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Mr. Lemons began his career in education as a
16	16	teacher with Canyon ISD; during his 15 years with the district, he
17	17	went on to serve as assistant principal at Valley View Junior High,
18	18	principal at Rex Reeves Elementary School, the first principal at
19	19	Randall High School, and associate executive director at the Region
20	20	XVI Education Service Center; and
21	21	WHEREAS, When this dedicated administrator became
22	22	superintendent of Bushland ISD in 1995, the district served just
23	23	422 students enrolled in kindergarten through the eighth grade;
24	24	during his tenure, enrollment nearly tripled and the tax base more
25	25	than doubled; moreover, Bushland added high school instruction to
26	26	its educational offerings and is graduating its second senior class
27	27	in May 2009; in the course of this dramatic expansion, schools in
28	28	the district upheld exceptional academic standards and claimed
29	29	numerous athletic championships, including six district titles in
30	30	2008-2009 alone and back-to-back state championships in volleyball
31	31	in 2007 and 2008; and
32	32	WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Lemons enjoys the love and
33	33	support of his two children, and his family also includes five
34	34	grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; he is a member of the
35	35	choir at his church and enjoys music and golf in his leisure time;
36	36	and
37	37	WHEREAS, Through his genuine concern for the well-being of
38	38	young people and his passion for education, John Lemons has
39	39	overseen many advancements during his years with Bushland ISD, and
40	40	he may indeed reflect with pride on his outstanding record of
41	41	service; now, therefore, be it
42	42	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
43	43	Legislature hereby honor John Lemons on his retirement as
44	44	superintendent of the Bushland Independent School District and
45	45	extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be
46	46	it further
47	47	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
48	48	prepared for Mr. Lemons as an expression of high regard by the Texas
49	49	House of Representatives.
