5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Elsa lost an admired neighbor and a |

6 | 6 | | respected member of the community with the passing of Leonel Garza, |
---|
7 | 7 | | Sr., on April 4, 2009, at the age of 85; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Garza was born on December 4, 1923, to Castulo |
---|
9 | 9 | | and Juanita Garcia Garza in Ciudad Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico; he |
---|
10 | 10 | | married the former Irene Canales and they moved to Elsa in 1941, |
---|
11 | 11 | | where Mr. Garza initially worked in various agriculture-related |
---|
12 | 12 | | jobs; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The couple enjoyed a rewarding marriage and raised |
---|
14 | 14 | | five children, Palmira, Elmira, Luis, Leonel, and Ancira; with the |
---|
15 | 15 | | passing years, the family grew to include 11 grandchildren and 4 |
---|
16 | 16 | | great-grandchildren; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Garza founded Garza's Flower Shop in |
---|
18 | 18 | | Elsa in 1969; the business was a success, and the couple were able |
---|
19 | 19 | | to acquire property and help their children and grandchildren to |
---|
20 | 20 | | establish productive lives of their own; though his Mexican |
---|
21 | 21 | | heritage was always dear to his heart, Mr. Garza was proud of his |
---|
22 | 22 | | adopted country and welcomed the opportunity to share in the |
---|
23 | 23 | | responsibilities of being a U.S. citizen; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A caring husband and father with a wonderful sense |
---|
25 | 25 | | of humor, Mr. Garza entertained his loved ones with his jokes and |
---|
26 | 26 | | comical antics, and he took great enjoyment in music, dancing, |
---|
27 | 27 | | traveling, and playing dominos; his life was an inspiring example |
---|
28 | 28 | | of the positive things that can be achieved through hard work and an |
---|
29 | 29 | | abiding concern for others, and he will be fondly remembered and |
---|
30 | 30 | | greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him; now, |
---|
31 | 31 | | therefore, be it |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Leonel Garza, Sr., and |
---|
34 | 34 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
---|
35 | 35 | | Irene Canales Garza; to his children, Palmira Lozano and her |
---|
36 | 36 | | husband, Leonel, Elmira Garza, Luis Garza and his wife, Rosario, |

37 | 37 | | Leonel Garza, Jr., and his wife, Terry, and Ancira Cuartas and her |

38 | 38 | | husband, Dario; to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to |
