 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Phillip Power of Lone Oak has been honored by the
 Cherokee County Soil and Water Conservation District for his
 achievements in sustainable forestry; and
 WHEREAS, Striving to protect and improve the forest on his
 150 acres, Mr. Power follows a management plan developed with the
 assistance of the Texas Forest Service, plotting fire lines,
 performing routine selective thinning, and conducting regular
 prescribed burns; in addition, he works to preserve the two creeks
 that run through the property and to promote the welfare of the
 area's wildlife; and
 WHEREAS, The land has been in Mr. Power's family for more than
 a century; his grandfather was a farmer, and his father worked
 cattle on the land for 10 years before joining a state program that
 planted pine trees for timber and conservation; the oldest part of
 the Power home is built entirely from lumber cut and milled from
 this forest; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Power and his wife, Norleine, are both graduates
 of Rusk High School in Lone Oak; his career in law enforcement
 eventually took him to Nacogdoches County, and he later worked in
 the insurance industry in Houston, in education in Dallas, and in
 energy conservation in Garland; following his retirement in 2000,
 he and his wife fulfilled their dream of moving back to Lone Oak,
 and Mr. Power was able to devote himself entirely to sustainable
 forestry; his endeavors are heartily supported by his family,
 including his daughter, his son-in-law, and his granddaughters, who
 are enthusiastic visitors to the forest; and
 WHEREAS, A member of the American Tree Farm System, the
 Trinity Neches Forest Landowner Association, and the state Forest
 Stewardship program, Mr. Power received a Texas Forest Service
 Stewardship award in 2008 from the United States Department of
 Agriculture Forest Service State Foresters; and
 WHEREAS, Sustainable forests are a great treasure of the Lone
 Star State, and through his outstanding conservation efforts,
 Phillip Power is improving our environment and preserving precious
 resources for future generations; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby commend Phillip Power for maintaining
 sustainable forest land and congratulate him on his recognition by
 the Cherokee County Soil and Water Conservation District; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Power as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
