| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, On April 2, 2009, San Antonio businessman Roberto |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Gonzales reopened his garage, Advanced First Auto and Collision |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Center, in a new location in order to save the jobs of his |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | employees; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Donna, Mr. Gonzales learned the values |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | of hard work and concern for others growing up in a family of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | farmworkers; when he was 19, he settled near Detroit, Michigan, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | where he took a job as a welder for General Motors and also worked |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | for several small auto repair shops; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzales moved back to Texas and opened his own |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | repair shop in San Antonio in 1987 with little more than $5,000 and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | a jack; with the help of loyal and dedicated employees, he built the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | business into Advanced First Auto, specializing in restoring |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | classic cars and hot rods; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Recently, at the age of 63, Mr. Gonzales had the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | opportunity to retire when he sold the business for a considerable |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | profit, but he realized how hard it might be for his employees to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | find other jobs in this difficult economy; as a result, he purchased |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | a new location and kept his employees on the payroll during the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | monthlong transition to the new shop; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, This act of generosity and loyalty is but one |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | example of the ethical nature and good business sense of Roberto |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Gonzales, and he may indeed take great pride in his many notable |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Roberto Gonzales on the grand |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | reopening of Advanced First Auto and Collision Center and commend |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | him on his commitment to his employees and his community; and, be it |
