H.R. No. 2067 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, On April 2, 2009, San Antonio businessman Roberto Gonzales reopened his garage, Advanced First Auto and Collision Center, in a new location in order to save the jobs of his employees; and WHEREAS, A native of Donna, Mr. Gonzales learned the values of hard work and concern for others growing up in a family of farmworkers; when he was 19, he settled near Detroit, Michigan, where he took a job as a welder for General Motors and also worked for several small auto repair shops; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzales moved back to Texas and opened his own repair shop in San Antonio in 1987 with little more than $5,000 and a jack; with the help of loyal and dedicated employees, he built the business into Advanced First Auto, specializing in restoring classic cars and hot rods; and WHEREAS, Recently, at the age of 63, Mr. Gonzales had the opportunity to retire when he sold the business for a considerable profit, but he realized how hard it might be for his employees to find other jobs in this difficult economy; as a result, he purchased a new location and kept his employees on the payroll during the monthlong transition to the new shop; and WHEREAS, This act of generosity and loyalty is but one example of the ethical nature and good business sense of Roberto Gonzales, and he may indeed take great pride in his many notable accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Roberto Gonzales on the grand reopening of Advanced First Auto and Collision Center and commend him on his commitment to his employees and his community; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Gonzales as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
