44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, For 110 years, families have come together to
66 celebrate their faith at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in
77 Houston; and
88 WHEREAS, Established on August 7, 1899, Saint John Missionary
99 Baptist Church has since played a vital role in the community,
1010 providing area residents with myriad opportunities for spiritual
1111 growth, fellowship, and community outreach; its worthwhile
1212 programs include jail and youth ministries, the We Do Recover
1313 Ministry for those overcoming health and substance abuse problems,
1414 and the Missionary Ministry that assists the less fortunate; and
1515 WHEREAS, The congregation has benefited from the able
1616 leadership of 12 dedicated pastors through the decades, and today
1717 that tradition of service continues under the direction of Keven D.
1818 Johnson, who has ministered at Saint John since 2007; and
1919 WHEREAS, Saint John Missionary Baptist Church has long served
2020 as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there,
2121 and its continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering
2222 commitment of its members, both past and present; now, therefore,
2323 be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2525 Legislature hereby commemorate the 110th anniversary of Saint John
2626 Missionary Baptist Church and extend to the congregation sincere
2727 best wishes for many more years of shared prayer and fellowship;
2828 and, be it further
2929 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3030 prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3131 House of Representatives.
