| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, For 110 years, families have come together to |

| 6 | 6 | | celebrate their faith at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in |

| 7 | 7 | | Houston; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Established on August 7, 1899, Saint John Missionary |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Baptist Church has since played a vital role in the community, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | providing area residents with myriad opportunities for spiritual |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | growth, fellowship, and community outreach; its worthwhile |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | programs include jail and youth ministries, the We Do Recover |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Ministry for those overcoming health and substance abuse problems, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and the Missionary Ministry that assists the less fortunate; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The congregation has benefited from the able |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | leadership of 12 dedicated pastors through the decades, and today |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | that tradition of service continues under the direction of Keven D. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Johnson, who has ministered at Saint John since 2007; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Saint John Missionary Baptist Church has long served |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and its continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | commitment of its members, both past and present; now, therefore, |

| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 110th anniversary of Saint John |

| 26 | 26 | | Missionary Baptist Church and extend to the congregation sincere |

| 27 | 27 | | best wishes for many more years of shared prayer and fellowship; |
