R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For 110 years, families have come together to
celebrate their faith at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in
Houston; and
WHEREAS, Established on August 7, 1899, Saint John Missionary
Baptist Church has since played a vital role in the community,
providing area residents with myriad opportunities for spiritual
growth, fellowship, and community outreach; its worthwhile
programs include jail and youth ministries, the We Do Recover
Ministry for those overcoming health and substance abuse problems,
and the Missionary Ministry that assists the less fortunate; and
WHEREAS, The congregation has benefited from the able
leadership of 12 dedicated pastors through the decades, and today
that tradition of service continues under the direction of Keven D.
Johnson, who has ministered at Saint John since 2007; and
WHEREAS, Saint John Missionary Baptist Church has long served
as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there,
and its continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering
commitment of its members, both past and present; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 110th anniversary of Saint John
Missionary Baptist Church and extend to the congregation sincere
best wishes for many more years of shared prayer and fellowship;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
