| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, For nearly five decades, members of the Lake |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Highlands Exchange Club have worked with great dedication to make a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | positive difference in their community; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The first Exchange Club was founded in Detroit, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Michigan, in 1911, by a group of citizens who wanted to share ideas |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and information that would enhance their service to their city; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | within a few years, three more Exchange Clubs sprang up in Michigan |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and Ohio, and the National Exchange Club was established as a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | nonprofit educational organization in 1917; since then, hundreds of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | clubs have been chartered across the United States and in Puerto |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Rico, and members currently number nearly 28,000; known as |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | America's Service Club, the organization works to strengthen |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | communities across the nation by promoting patriotism and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | volunteerism, sponsoring youth activities, and working to prevent |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | child abuse; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Exchange Club of Lake Highlands received its |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | charter on December 4, 1961; today, the group is one of the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | fastest-growing Exchange Clubs in the nation, with a dynamic |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | membership that takes part in a wide range of activities in behalf |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of the community; led by current president Stan Scates, the club |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | supports its mission in many ways, including by sponsoring a |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | student awards program, recognizing local residents serving in the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | armed forces, and contributing to the Child Abuse Prevention Center |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | in East Dallas; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Through their steadfast commitment to their |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | community, the members of the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands have |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | enriched the lives of many area Texans and earned the sincere |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | admiration and appreciation of their fellow citizens; now, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby commend the members of the Exchange Club of Lake |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Highlands for their notable contributions and extend to them best |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | wishes for continued success in their endeavors; and, be it further |
