 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, For nearly five decades, members of the Lake
 Highlands Exchange Club have worked with great dedication to make a
 positive difference in their community; and
 WHEREAS, The first Exchange Club was founded in Detroit,
 Michigan, in 1911, by a group of citizens who wanted to share ideas
 and information that would enhance their service to their city;
 within a few years, three more Exchange Clubs sprang up in Michigan
 and Ohio, and the National Exchange Club was established as a
 nonprofit educational organization in 1917; since then, hundreds of
 clubs have been chartered across the United States and in Puerto
 Rico, and members currently number nearly 28,000; known as
 America's Service Club, the organization works to strengthen
 communities across the nation by promoting patriotism and
 volunteerism, sponsoring youth activities, and working to prevent
 child abuse; and
 WHEREAS, The Exchange Club of Lake Highlands received its
 charter on December 4, 1961; today, the group is one of the
 fastest-growing Exchange Clubs in the nation, with a dynamic
 membership that takes part in a wide range of activities in behalf
 of the community; led by current president Stan Scates, the club
 supports its mission in many ways, including by sponsoring a
 student awards program, recognizing local residents serving in the
 armed forces, and contributing to the Child Abuse Prevention Center
 in East Dallas; and
 WHEREAS, Through their steadfast commitment to their
 community, the members of the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands have
 enriched the lives of many area Texans and earned the sincere
 admiration and appreciation of their fellow citizens; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby commend the members of the Exchange Club of Lake
 Highlands for their notable contributions and extend to them best
 wishes for continued success in their endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
