 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt
 at the death of U.S. Army Sergeant Jonathan A. Markham of Bedford on
 May 29, 2007, at the age of 22; and
 WHEREAS, Sergeant Markham was a cavalry scout with the 6th
 Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st
 Cavalry Division, out of Fort Hood; deployed since October 2006, he
 was killed by an improvised explosive device in Abu Sayda, Iraq; and
 WHEREAS, Jonathan Markham was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin,
 on March 2, 1985, and he grew up in Germany, Arizona, and Texas,
 following his stepfather's career in the army; answering his
 nation's call to duty, he joined the army in May 2004; and
 WHEREAS, At the time of his death, this brave soldier had
 earned the rank of sergeant and was due to receive his stripes when
 he returned to the United States; his commendations included the
 Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the
 Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the
 Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism
 Expeditionary Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Combat Action
 Badge; and
 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
 forces, Jonathan Markham inspired others with his loyalty and
 patriotism, and all who knew and loved him will forever carry his
 memory close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Jonathan A.
 Markham and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
 family: to his wife, Stacey Markham; to his son, Daniel Allen
 Markham; to his mother, Dawn Markham; to his stepfather, Steve
 Bryan, and his wife, Kelly; to his father-in-law and mother-in-law,
 Alex and Cindy Aguayo; and to his other relatives and friends; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jonathan A.
 Markham.
