44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of Roy N.
66 Davis of Weslaco, who passed away on May 2, 2009, at the age of 77;
77 and
88 WHEREAS, Born on March 9, 1932, to P. J. and Velma Davis in
99 Santa Rosa, Roy Davis graduated from Weslaco High School as his
1010 class valedictorian and went on to become the salutatorian of the
1111 Class of 1954 at Pan American College; he answered his nation's call
1212 to duty with two years of service in the Panama Canal Zone as a
1313 member of the U.S. Army; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Davis established a notable career in real
1515 estate, serving as a partner in Davis Real Estate Broker and
1616 Developers; he was very active in his community, particularly with
1717 the Weslaco Lions Club, holding every office in District 2-A3 of the
1818 organization, including that of governor, and also serving as
1919 president of the Texas Lions Children's Camp in Kerrville;
2020 moreover, he was a member of the Gideons, and he served as a deacon
2121 at the First Baptist Church of Weslaco, president of the Weslaco
2222 Chamber of Commerce, and president of the Rio Grande Valley Chamber
2323 of Commerce; and
2424 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan received several honors for his
2525 civic service, including the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and the Ray
2626 Hughston Humanitarian Award for District 2-A3 of the Lions; in
2727 addition, he was inducted as a member of the Texas Lions Hall of
2828 Fame and was twice named the Outstanding Citizen of Weslaco; and
2929 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Davis enjoyed the love
3030 and support of his wife, the former Marlene Marshall, with whom he
3131 shared more than a half-century; the couple were blessed with a
3232 treasured family that included two children, Ron and Brenda, and
3333 four grandchildren; and
3434 WHEREAS, Roy Davis lived his life with commitment and
3535 compassion, and he will be deeply missed by all those who held him
3636 dear; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roy N. Davis and
3939 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
4040 Marlene Davis; to his children, Ron Davis and Brenda Hall and her
4141 husband, Joey; to his grandchildren, Andrew Davis and Katie, Corey,
4242 and Bailey Hall; to his brother, Bob Davis, and his wife, Jo; to his
4343 sisters, Janie Harbison and her husband, Bobby, and Joyce Coley;
4444 and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4747 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roy Davis.
