5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of Roy N. |

6 | 6 | | Davis of Weslaco, who passed away on May 2, 2009, at the age of 77; |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on March 9, 1932, to P. J. and Velma Davis in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Santa Rosa, Roy Davis graduated from Weslaco High School as his |
---|
10 | 10 | | class valedictorian and went on to become the salutatorian of the |
---|
11 | 11 | | Class of 1954 at Pan American College; he answered his nation's call |
---|
12 | 12 | | to duty with two years of service in the Panama Canal Zone as a |
---|
13 | 13 | | member of the U.S. Army; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Davis established a notable career in real |
---|
15 | 15 | | estate, serving as a partner in Davis Real Estate Broker and |
---|
16 | 16 | | Developers; he was very active in his community, particularly with |
---|
17 | 17 | | the Weslaco Lions Club, holding every office in District 2-A3 of the |
---|
18 | 18 | | organization, including that of governor, and also serving as |
---|
19 | 19 | | president of the Texas Lions Children's Camp in Kerrville; |
---|
20 | 20 | | moreover, he was a member of the Gideons, and he served as a deacon |
---|
21 | 21 | | at the First Baptist Church of Weslaco, president of the Weslaco |
---|
22 | 22 | | Chamber of Commerce, and president of the Rio Grande Valley Chamber |
---|
23 | 23 | | of Commerce; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan received several honors for his |
---|
25 | 25 | | civic service, including the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and the Ray |
---|
26 | 26 | | Hughston Humanitarian Award for District 2-A3 of the Lions; in |
---|
27 | 27 | | addition, he was inducted as a member of the Texas Lions Hall of |
---|
28 | 28 | | Fame and was twice named the Outstanding Citizen of Weslaco; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Davis enjoyed the love |
---|
30 | 30 | | and support of his wife, the former Marlene Marshall, with whom he |
---|
31 | 31 | | shared more than a half-century; the couple were blessed with a |
---|
32 | 32 | | treasured family that included two children, Ron and Brenda, and |
---|
33 | 33 | | four grandchildren; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Roy Davis lived his life with commitment and |
---|
35 | 35 | | compassion, and he will be deeply missed by all those who held him |
---|
36 | 36 | | dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roy N. Davis and |
---|
39 | 39 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
---|
40 | 40 | | Marlene Davis; to his children, Ron Davis and Brenda Hall and her |
---|
41 | 41 | | husband, Joey; to his grandchildren, Andrew Davis and Katie, Corey, |
---|
42 | 42 | | and Bailey Hall; to his brother, Bob Davis, and his wife, Jo; to his |

43 | 43 | | sisters, Janie Harbison and her husband, Bobby, and Joyce Coley; |
