H.R. No. 2126 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of Roy N. Davis of Weslaco, who passed away on May 2, 2009, at the age of 77; and WHEREAS, Born on March 9, 1932, to P. J. and Velma Davis in Santa Rosa, Roy Davis graduated from Weslaco High School as his class valedictorian and went on to become the salutatorian of the Class of 1954 at Pan American College; he answered his nation's call to duty with two years of service in the Panama Canal Zone as a member of the U.S. Army; and WHEREAS, Mr. Davis established a notable career in real estate, serving as a partner in Davis Real Estate Broker and Developers; he was very active in his community, particularly with the Weslaco Lions Club, holding every office in District 2-A3 of the organization, including that of governor, and also serving as president of the Texas Lions Children's Camp in Kerrville; moreover, he was a member of the Gideons, and he served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Weslaco, president of the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce, and president of the Rio Grande Valley Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan received several honors for his civic service, including the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and the Ray Hughston Humanitarian Award for District 2-A3 of the Lions; in addition, he was inducted as a member of the Texas Lions Hall of Fame and was twice named the Outstanding Citizen of Weslaco; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Davis enjoyed the love and support of his wife, the former Marlene Marshall, with whom he shared more than a half-century; the couple were blessed with a treasured family that included two children, Ron and Brenda, and four grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Roy Davis lived his life with commitment and compassion, and he will be deeply missed by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roy N. Davis and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Marlene Davis; to his children, Ron Davis and Brenda Hall and her husband, Joey; to his grandchildren, Andrew Davis and Katie, Corey, and Bailey Hall; to his brother, Bob Davis, and his wife, Jo; to his sisters, Janie Harbison and her husband, Bobby, and Joyce Coley; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roy Davis.
