| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Verna Trammel has been named a 2009 Unsung Hero by |

| 6 | 6 | | the Galveston County Daily News for her outstanding contributions |

| 7 | 7 | | to her community; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to bringing joy to those in need, Mrs. |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Trammel crochets lap blankets for the wheelchair-bound, caps for |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | cancer patients, and afghans for friends; she lovingly creates |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | hundreds of items each year, working to make them colorful and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | presenting them personally; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A native of Wichita Falls, she has made her home in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Hitchcock for six decades; at the age of 83, she still drives, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | visits nursing homes, and volunteers at the Sunshine Shop, which |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | she managed for 13 years before retiring two years ago; in her free |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | time, she enjoys growing flowers in her yard and working with her |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | hands; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Those individuals who step forward to share their |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | time with others are indeed deserving of our profound gratitude, |

| 21 | 21 | | and it is a pleasure to honor Verna Trammel, who has enriched the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | lives of countless Gulf Coast residents with her dedicated |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | community service; now, therefore, be it |

| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Verna Trammel on being named a 2009 |
