44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Residents of Lubbock lost a cherished neighbor and
66 an admired educator with the untimely passing of Christine L. Shinn
77 on December 22, 2008, at the age of 56; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on September 27, 1952, to Merton and Opal Teig
99 Eggeman in Missouri, the former Chris Eggeman graduated from Butler
1010 High School and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of
1111 Missouri--Columbia; she married Alan Shinn in 1977, and the couple
1212 initially moved to Lubbock; they became the parents of two
1313 daughters, Erin and Lauren; and
1414 WHEREAS, When her husband accepted a teaching position at
1515 Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Ms. Shinn enrolled
1616 at the university and earned a master's degree in music education;
1717 after the family returned to Lubbock, she began working as a music
1818 teacher in area schools and spent the majority of her career at Iles
1919 Elementary School; she became well-known for her exceptional
2020 ability to communicate the language of music to her students and
2121 retired in the spring of 2008 after many productive years in the
2222 classroom; moreover, she served as chancel choir director at
2323 Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the
2424 congregation; and
2525 WHEREAS, Chris Shinn lived a caring and purposeful life that
2626 was devoted to her family and to the art of music, and she will be
2727 forever remembered with great fondness by all those who held her
2828 dear; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3030 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Christine L. Shinn and
3131 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
3232 husband, Alan Shinn; to her daughters, Erin and Lauren Shinn; to her
3333 sister, Martha Tatman, and her husband, Pete; and to her other
3434 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3636 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
3737 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Christine
3838 Shinn.
