H.R. No. 2144 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Residents of Lubbock lost a cherished neighbor and an admired educator with the untimely passing of Christine L. Shinn on December 22, 2008, at the age of 56; and WHEREAS, Born on September 27, 1952, to Merton and Opal Teig Eggeman in Missouri, the former Chris Eggeman graduated from Butler High School and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri--Columbia; she married Alan Shinn in 1977, and the couple initially moved to Lubbock; they became the parents of two daughters, Erin and Lauren; and WHEREAS, When her husband accepted a teaching position at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Ms. Shinn enrolled at the university and earned a master's degree in music education; after the family returned to Lubbock, she began working as a music teacher in area schools and spent the majority of her career at Iles Elementary School; she became well-known for her exceptional ability to communicate the language of music to her students and retired in the spring of 2008 after many productive years in the classroom; moreover, she served as chancel choir director at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the congregation; and WHEREAS, Chris Shinn lived a caring and purposeful life that was devoted to her family and to the art of music, and she will be forever remembered with great fondness by all those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Christine L. Shinn and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, Alan Shinn; to her daughters, Erin and Lauren Shinn; to her sister, Martha Tatman, and her husband, Pete; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Christine Shinn.
