| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bill Porter was elected to the Mesquite City Council |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | on May 9, 2009; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, A lifetime resident of Mesquite, Mr. Porter holds |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of North Texas, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and he has completed Dupont and Gallup Leadership modules; he |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | served for several decades as a principal in the Mesquite |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Independent School District and continues to work part-time as a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | teacher recruiter; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Porter is an active member of the Lions Club, Old |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Town Mesquite, and the board of the Mesquite Educational |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Foundation, and he has previously contributed to the community |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | through his involvement in the Mesquite Historical Committee and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce; recognized for his dedication, he |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | has been named Principal of the Year and Lion of the Year, and he is |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the recipient of the Lions Club President's Award; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Committed to making Mesquite an even better city in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | which to live and work, Mr. Porter supports a regional light rail |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | system, the revitalization of the city's older areas, and a variety |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of commercial developments; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Bill Porter's professional accomplishments and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | civic engagement have earned him the respect and admiration of his |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | fellow citizens, and he is sure to distinguish himself as a valuable |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | member of the Mesquite City Council; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Bill Porter on his election to the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Mesquite City Council and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | success in his new role; and, be it further |
