 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Bill Porter was elected to the Mesquite City Council
 on May 9, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, A lifetime resident of Mesquite, Mr. Porter holds
 bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of North Texas,
 and he has completed Dupont and Gallup Leadership modules; he
 served for several decades as a principal in the Mesquite
 Independent School District and continues to work part-time as a
 teacher recruiter; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Porter is an active member of the Lions Club, Old
 Town Mesquite, and the board of the Mesquite Educational
 Foundation, and he has previously contributed to the community
 through his involvement in the Mesquite Historical Committee and
 the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce; recognized for his dedication, he
 has been named Principal of the Year and Lion of the Year, and he is
 the recipient of the Lions Club President's Award; and
 WHEREAS, Committed to making Mesquite an even better city in
 which to live and work, Mr. Porter supports a regional light rail
 system, the revitalization of the city's older areas, and a variety
 of commercial developments; and
 WHEREAS, Bill Porter's professional accomplishments and
 civic engagement have earned him the respect and admiration of his
 fellow citizens, and he is sure to distinguish himself as a valuable
 member of the Mesquite City Council; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Bill Porter on his election to the
 Mesquite City Council and extend to him sincere best wishes for
 success in his new role; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Porter as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
