5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, During 2009, the students, faculty, staff, and |

6 | 6 | | administrators of T. J. Lee Elementary School in Irving are |

7 | 7 | | commemorating the 50th anniversary of the school's establishment; |

---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Lee Elementary provides an outstanding learning |
---|
10 | 10 | | environment through the dedicated efforts of its exemplary |
---|
11 | 11 | | instructors, several of whom have been recognized by the |
---|
12 | 12 | | Association of Texas Professional Educators for superior |
---|
13 | 13 | | performance; students have benefited greatly, as indicated by such |
---|
14 | 14 | | notable accomplishments as the second-place standing in regional |
---|
15 | 15 | | competition achieved by the fifth-grade Destination ImagiNation |
---|
16 | 16 | | team; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Committed to providing young people with a nurturing |
---|
18 | 18 | | environment, the faculty and staff work to help students develop |
---|
19 | 19 | | social skills and individual responsibility; the Sarah Cahill Good |
---|
20 | 20 | | Citizen Award is an honor given to a student who exhibits good |
---|
21 | 21 | | citizenship and the values of friendship and is named for a former |
---|
22 | 22 | | student who epitomized these qualities; T. J. Lee also has been the |
---|
23 | 23 | | district's leader in all recycling efforts for many years and has |
---|
24 | 24 | | won the first-place award for the Irving Arts Center Christmas tree |
---|
25 | 25 | | decorating contest three separate times; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The school's administrators and members of its food |
---|
27 | 27 | | services department recognize that healthy students are more |
---|
28 | 28 | | productive learners now and for a lifetime, and T. J. Lee has been |
---|
29 | 29 | | named by the USDA as the first Silver and the first Gold school in |
---|
30 | 30 | | Texas for its commitment to the highest levels of nutrition and |
---|
31 | 31 | | physical education; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Parents and members of the community are encouraged |
---|
33 | 33 | | to be involved in the educational process; the school is a member of |
---|
34 | 34 | | the Texas PTA and was the first school in the Irving Independent |
---|
35 | 35 | | School District to start an annual Block Party, which brings |
---|
36 | 36 | | together community members, students, and parents to kick off the |
---|
37 | 37 | | school year with food and fun; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of five eventful decades, T. J. Lee |
---|
39 | 39 | | Elementary School has educated thousands of Irving students and |
---|
40 | 40 | | provided a foundation on which they could build rewarding and |
---|
41 | 41 | | fulfilling lives; now, therefore, be it |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening |
---|
44 | 44 | | of T. J. Lee Elementary School in Irving and extend to all those |
---|
45 | 45 | | associated with the school sincere best wishes for continued |
---|
46 | 46 | | success; and, be it further |

47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

48 | 48 | | prepared for T. J. Lee Elementary School as an expression of high |

49 | 49 | | regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
