H.R. No. 2232 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, During 2009, the students, faculty, staff, and administrators of T. J. Lee Elementary School in Irving are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the school's establishment; and WHEREAS, Lee Elementary provides an outstanding learning environment through the dedicated efforts of its exemplary instructors, several of whom have been recognized by the Association of Texas Professional Educators for superior performance; students have benefited greatly, as indicated by such notable accomplishments as the second-place standing in regional competition achieved by the fifth-grade Destination ImagiNation team; and WHEREAS, Committed to providing young people with a nurturing environment, the faculty and staff work to help students develop social skills and individual responsibility; the Sarah Cahill Good Citizen Award is an honor given to a student who exhibits good citizenship and the values of friendship and is named for a former student who epitomized these qualities; T. J. Lee also has been the district's leader in all recycling efforts for many years and has won the first-place award for the Irving Arts Center Christmas tree decorating contest three separate times; and WHEREAS, The school's administrators and members of its food services department recognize that healthy students are more productive learners now and for a lifetime, and T. J. Lee has been named by the USDA as the first Silver and the first Gold school in Texas for its commitment to the highest levels of nutrition and physical education; and WHEREAS, Parents and members of the community are encouraged to be involved in the educational process; the school is a member of the Texas PTA and was the first school in the Irving Independent School District to start an annual Block Party, which brings together community members, students, and parents to kick off the school year with food and fun; and WHEREAS, Over the course of five eventful decades, T. J. Lee Elementary School has educated thousands of Irving students and provided a foundation on which they could build rewarding and fulfilling lives; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of T. J. Lee Elementary School in Irving and extend to all those associated with the school sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for T.
