44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The city of Round Rock and the Round Rock Chamber of
66 Commerce have joined together to support the U.S. Army 404th
77 Aviation Support Battalion as part of the Adopt-A-Unit program
88 sponsored by the Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter of the Association
99 of the United States Army; and
1010 WHEREAS, The 404th battalion is part of the Combat Aviation
1111 Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Hood; deployed to
1212 Iraq since June 2008, its 800 skilled and dedicated soldiers are
1313 charged with maintaining aircraft, ground vehicles, and
1414 communications; and
1515 WHEREAS, More than 40 organizations, including businesses,
1616 civic clubs, and neighborhood associations, have participated in
1717 this exemplary effort to support the members of the 404th and their
1818 families; organizations have also adopted individual platoons
1919 within the battalion; and
2020 WHEREAS, Volunteers have collected personal items for the
2121 soldiers and provided hundreds of care packages, boxes of cookies,
2222 and presents at Christmas; participants have also donated school
2323 supplies to the children of soldiers and further reached out to
2424 their families by sponsoring community picnics and movie nights;
2525 and
2626 WHEREAS, The individuals who have led the effort include
2727 Round Rock City Council members Rufus Honeycutt and Kris Whitfield,
2828 Eric Whitfield, Jonas Miller of Congressman John Carter's office,
2929 Mayor Alan McGraw, and former mayor Nyle Maxwell; and
3030 WHEREAS, In order to ensure our safety and our freedom, the
3131 men and women of America's armed forces and their loved ones endure
3232 hardship and sacrifice, and it is most fitting that the people of
3333 Round Rock have found this meaningful way to demonstrate their
3434 admiration and appreciation; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3636 Legislature hereby commend the city of Round Rock, the Round Rock
3737 Chamber of Commerce, and the participating individuals and
3838 organizations for their adoption of the 404th Aviation Support
3939 Battalion and extend to all involved in this worthwhile enterprise
4040 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for the city of Round Rock and the Round Rock Chamber of
4343 Commerce as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
4444 Representatives.
