| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The city of Round Rock and the Round Rock Chamber of |

| 6 | 6 | | Commerce have joined together to support the U.S. Army 404th |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Aviation Support Battalion as part of the Adopt-A-Unit program |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | sponsored by the Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter of the Association |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | of the United States Army; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The 404th battalion is part of the Combat Aviation |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Hood; deployed to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Iraq since June 2008, its 800 skilled and dedicated soldiers are |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | charged with maintaining aircraft, ground vehicles, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | communications; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, More than 40 organizations, including businesses, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | civic clubs, and neighborhood associations, have participated in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | this exemplary effort to support the members of the 404th and their |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | families; organizations have also adopted individual platoons |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | within the battalion; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Volunteers have collected personal items for the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | soldiers and provided hundreds of care packages, boxes of cookies, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and presents at Christmas; participants have also donated school |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | supplies to the children of soldiers and further reached out to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | their families by sponsoring community picnics and movie nights; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The individuals who have led the effort include |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Round Rock City Council members Rufus Honeycutt and Kris Whitfield, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Eric Whitfield, Jonas Miller of Congressman John Carter's office, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Mayor Alan McGraw, and former mayor Nyle Maxwell; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In order to ensure our safety and our freedom, the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | men and women of America's armed forces and their loved ones endure |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | hardship and sacrifice, and it is most fitting that the people of |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Round Rock have found this meaningful way to demonstrate their |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | admiration and appreciation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby commend the city of Round Rock, the Round Rock |

| 37 | 37 | | Chamber of Commerce, and the participating individuals and |

| 38 | 38 | | organizations for their adoption of the 404th Aviation Support |
