H.R. No. 2256 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The city of Round Rock and the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce have joined together to support the U.S. Army 404th Aviation Support Battalion as part of the Adopt-A-Unit program sponsored by the Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter of the Association of the United States Army; and WHEREAS, The 404th battalion is part of the Combat Aviation Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Hood; deployed to Iraq since June 2008, its 800 skilled and dedicated soldiers are charged with maintaining aircraft, ground vehicles, and communications; and WHEREAS, More than 40 organizations, including businesses, civic clubs, and neighborhood associations, have participated in this exemplary effort to support the members of the 404th and their families; organizations have also adopted individual platoons within the battalion; and WHEREAS, Volunteers have collected personal items for the soldiers and provided hundreds of care packages, boxes of cookies, and presents at Christmas; participants have also donated school supplies to the children of soldiers and further reached out to their families by sponsoring community picnics and movie nights; and WHEREAS, The individuals who have led the effort include Round Rock City Council members Rufus Honeycutt and Kris Whitfield, Eric Whitfield, Jonas Miller of Congressman John Carter's office, Mayor Alan McGraw, and former mayor Nyle Maxwell; and WHEREAS, In order to ensure our safety and our freedom, the men and women of America's armed forces and their loved ones endure hardship and sacrifice, and it is most fitting that the people of Round Rock have found this meaningful way to demonstrate their admiration and appreciation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commend the city of Round Rock, the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce, and the participating individuals and organizations for their adoption of the 404th Aviation Support Battalion and extend to all involved in this worthwhile enterprise sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the city of Round Rock and the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
