| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, For the second consecutive year, CPS Energy has been |

| 6 | 6 | | ranked number one in wind energy capacity among municipal utilities |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | by the American Wind Energy Association; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, CPS Energy was further honored by AWEA as the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Municipal Utility of the Year for its continued growth and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | leadership in renewable wind energy; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The nation's largest municipally owned energy |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | company, CPS Energy serves some 690,000 electric and nearly 320,000 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | natural gas customers in and around San Antonio; it currently |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | receives approximately 578 megawatts of wind power from three |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | sources, including the Cottonwood Creek, Desert Sky, and Penascal |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Wind Farms; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, CPS Energy is working to reach an ambitious goal of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | having 20 percent of peak energy demand powered by renewable energy |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | by the year 2020; through its program Windtricity, customers can |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | opt to purchase wind power to help meet their energy needs; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Committed to doing its part to protect the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | environment and conserve natural resources, CPS Energy has set an |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | outstanding example of public responsibility, and San Antonio |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | residents may indeed take pride in this visionary municipal |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | utility; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby honor CPS Energy on being ranked number one in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | wind energy capacity among municipal utilities by the American Wind |

| 29 | 29 | | Energy Association and on being named the Municipal Utility of the |

| 30 | 30 | | Year and extend to all those associated with the organization |

| 31 | 31 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
