 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, For the second consecutive year, CPS Energy has been
 ranked number one in wind energy capacity among municipal utilities
 by the American Wind Energy Association; and
 WHEREAS, CPS Energy was further honored by AWEA as the
 Municipal Utility of the Year for its continued growth and
 leadership in renewable wind energy; and
 WHEREAS, The nation's largest municipally owned energy
 company, CPS Energy serves some 690,000 electric and nearly 320,000
 natural gas customers in and around San Antonio; it currently
 receives approximately 578 megawatts of wind power from three
 sources, including the Cottonwood Creek, Desert Sky, and Penascal
 Wind Farms; and
 WHEREAS, CPS Energy is working to reach an ambitious goal of
 having 20 percent of peak energy demand powered by renewable energy
 by the year 2020; through its program Windtricity, customers can
 opt to purchase wind power to help meet their energy needs; and
 WHEREAS, Committed to doing its part to protect the
 environment and conserve natural resources, CPS Energy has set an
 outstanding example of public responsibility, and San Antonio
 residents may indeed take pride in this visionary municipal
 utility; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby honor CPS Energy on being ranked number one in
 wind energy capacity among municipal utilities by the American Wind
 Energy Association and on being named the Municipal Utility of the
 Year and extend to all those associated with the organization
 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for CPS Energy as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
